CQBHA Free Training for Members

RYA linked shore based programme, RYA Active Marina practical training

Training Modules in conjunction with PTUK

Powerboat Training UK have scheduled free training again for CQBHA for 2024 to help berth holders upskill knowledge and confirm understanding of some key safety areas. As Powerboat Training UK explain the sessions that have been scheduled are as follows:

Lifejackets, flares & basic skills (09.30 each day): A 60-minute session that focuses on some of the key safety areas. We’ll look at properly fitting a lifejacket and then set off a lifejacket to see how that works. We’ll look at flares and the other ways of issue it distresses, and we’ll look at some basic line work. This session suits kids and adults and alike.

Chart plotters and radar (11.00 each day): These are amazing bits of kit but come with a need to understand how they work. We now have a state-of-the-art set of simulators that allow us to navigate through Poole Harbour using a simulator but also real plotters whilst the visibility is poor. On this session we’ll bring in fog so you can see what it’s like to navigate the harbour in the fog. A great session where if you crash the boat, it won’t matter too much!!

CPR & Defibrillators (Noon each day): There can’t be anything more important that knowing a bit of first aid and understanding how to conduct CPR and use a defibrillator is really handy. This has always been a really popular session and again is good for kids and adults.

There are three dates planned for these sessions:

Saturday 20th April

Saturday 4th May (This is the day of the Cobbs Quay Marina Open Day)

Saturday 1st June

You can book these sessions via this page: https://www.powerboat-training-uk.co.uk/course_type/cqbha/

These sessions are free but we’d love a £5 donation to RNLI Poole Lifeboat Station. We’ll have a donation machine at the courses on the day.

*Powerboat Training UK have been based at Cobbs Quay for over 8 years and have a broad range of boating experience from very small powerboats and sailing dinghies to large super yachts. Their approach when running these sessions is to run a fun and informative session where no one feels any pressure to perform and everyone can contribute as much or as little as they want. Please note that neither course is certificated and whilst run by RYA Instructors are not RYA courses.
