Mid Season Review June 2009

Well,  June is here, firmly in mid season and we have at least had some good weather.  All the weather reports keep promising a good summer – but we have heard that before!  Speaking of weather I hope all of you have found the ‘moving weather’ display in the amenities block useful.  It provides a display of expected conditions over the next few days and is particularly useful if you are planning a trip away from the harbour.

It is pleasing to note that our team of pontoon reps is growing.  We now have dry stack representation and also representatives from Davis’.  We see these people as our most direct face to face link with you.  Their photos are on the pontoon heads together with boat names and locations.  Please do say high when you go past and also let them have any views or questions you may have.  We have hopes of starting a sailing section in the near future – please contact Jim if you would be interested in participating in this.

You may have noticed this year a stronger move towards support with training.  Plans are afoot for First Aid and Diesel engine courses.  These will be put on subject to numbers so please let us know if you are interested.  We have arranged for some short course on the basics of Introduction to Safety & Navigation and Pilotage & Passage planning Power Boat Training.

As an Association or aim is ‘Enabling Members to go further’.  A key part of this – as well as safety on our cruises (not to mention to comply with SOLAS) is passage planning.  Available in the Quay Shop are copies of Cumberlidge which has key waypoints for safe passage across Southern England and Northern France.  These waypoints are used in the planning for our cruises.  The books are available for free hire and return (subject to a deposit) or for purchase.

Our next social event is our summer party this weekend on the 27th June.  A few tickets are available at £10 per person to include food.  No own drinks on this one as we are providing a well priced bar which will help us to pay for the marquee and band.  Please purchase your tickets soon so that we can plan effectively for numbers.

The weather has at least been kinder to out cruises with visits to the Isle of Wight and France.  Some exciting times and some very kind gestures have resulted which I am sure will be reported on in detail in due course.

For new and existing members alike our excellent magazine – Horizons – is available in hard copy in the shop.

I hope the rest of the season provides some great weather out on the water.  I look forward to seeing you around the marina.
